What Counts as an Electrical Emergency
If you are seeing any of the following, stop using the circuit and call. These are the faults that get worse, not better, if they are left overnight.
- Burning smell, smoke, or scorch marks around an outlet, switch or panel
- Sparking or arcing when you plug something in or flip a switch
- A breaker that trips immediately every time you reset it
- A hot panel, hot breaker, or buzzing or crackling from the panel
- Losing power to half the house while the rest stays on — often a failing neutral, which can damage appliances and is genuinely dangerous
- Water reaching outlets, panels or fixtures after a leak, monsoon flooding or a burst line
- Shocks or tingling from an appliance, faucet, or pool or spa equipment
- Aluminum wiring connections that are discolouring or getting warm
What to Do Before We Arrive
- If you smell burning or see smoke, get everyone out and call 911. Do not investigate it yourself.
- Cut power to the affected circuit at the breaker, if you can reach the panel safely and it is not the panel itself that is hot, buzzing or smoking.
- Do not reset a breaker repeatedly. A breaker that keeps tripping is doing its job — it is telling you there is a fault behind it.
- Stay away from anything wet that is touching electrical equipment, and do not stand in water to reach a panel.
- Unplug sensitive electronics if you have lost power to part of the house, since voltage can swing badly on a failing neutral.
- Take a photo if it is safe to do so. It helps us bring the right parts.
When to Call 911 or Your Utility Instead of an Electrician
Not every electrical emergency is an electrician’s job, and calling the wrong number costs time you may not have.
- Fire, smoke, or anyone injured or shocked — call 911 first, always.
- A downed power line — stay at least 100 feet away, keep others back, and call 911. Never approach it, and never assume it is dead.
- Damage to the service drop, meter, or the utility’s equipment — that side of the connection belongs to your utility, APS or SRP depending on where you are in the Valley. They will not charge you to make their own equipment safe.
- A neighborhood-wide outage — that is a utility fault, not a problem inside your home.
Once the immediate danger is handled and the utility has made their side safe, we pick up everything from the meter inward.
When We Can Get to You
Our regular hours are Monday to Saturday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. We are closed Sundays. During those hours, genuine emergencies go to the front of the queue ahead of scheduled work.
Outside those hours, we answer emergency calls when we are available. We will not advertise a guaranteed 24-hour dispatch, because Sparks by Rabbit is an owner-operated shop and that is not a promise one electrician can honestly make. After-hours calls carry a premium rate. If we cannot get to you safely and quickly, we will say so on the phone and tell you what to do in the meantime rather than leave you waiting.
What Emergency Work Costs
During regular business hours, emergency diagnosis and repair are priced at our standard residential rates — there is no surcharge simply for calling it an emergency. Work taken outside regular hours carries an after-hours premium, which we will confirm with you before we come out.

- New dedicated circuit — about $600 to $800
- 100-amp to 200-amp panel upgrade — about $4,000
